Gas Cost per Km in the Philippines (October 2026): Cars, SUVs & Motorcycles
How much one kilometer of driving costs at this week’s pump prices — plus ready-made costs for 100 km, 400 km, your daily commute, and popular road trips like Tagaytay, Baguio, and La Union.
Short answer: at Metro Manila’s common pump prices for September 29 – October 5, 2026 (₱87.20/L for RON 91, ₱94.10/L for RON 95, ₱95.70/L for diesel), driving costs about ₱2.20 per km on a motorcycle, ₱5.80–7.30 per km in a small car or sedan, and ₱10.60–12.00 per km in a diesel AUV or pickup.
That’s roughly 27% more per kilometer than when gasoline was ₱68.50/L. If your budget for gas still runs on last year’s numbers, it is probably short by a quarter.
Example: ₱87.20 ÷ 12 km/L = ₱7.27 per km. Multiply by any distance to get trip cost.
Gas cost per km by vehicle type (October 2026)
These use typical real-world fuel efficiency for mixed city and highway driving in the Philippines. Gasoline vehicles are priced at RON 91 (₱87.20/L); diesel vehicles at ₱95.70/L.
| Vehicle | Typical km/L | Cost per km | Per 10 km | Per 100 km |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Motorcycle (125–155cc) | 40 | ₱2.18 | ₱22 | ₱218 |
| Small car / hatchback | 15 | ₱5.81 | ₱58 | ₱581 |
| Sedan | 12 | ₱7.27 | ₱73 | ₱727 |
| Gas SUV / crossover | 10 | ₱8.72 | ₱87 | ₱872 |
| Diesel AUV / van | 9 | ₱10.63 | ₱106 | ₱1,063 |
| Diesel pickup / 7-seater SUV | 8 | ₱11.96 | ₱120 | ₱1,196 |
Your own car may do better or worse. A sedan that gets 9 km/L in EDSA traffic can hit 16–18 km/L on SLEX at a steady 80–90 km/h. For the most accurate number, plug your own km/L into our Fuel Cost Calculator.
Why is diesel more expensive per km now?
For years, diesel was cheaper per liter than gasoline. In 2026 that flipped: supply disruptions in the Middle East hit diesel hardest, and this week diesel (₱95.70) costs more than RON 91 (₱87.20) even after a ₱7.57/L rollback on September 29. Diesel engines still go farther per liter than similar-sized gas engines, but the old “diesel is always cheaper to run” rule no longer holds automatically.

Splitting with barkada? A Baguio round trip in a gas SUV is about ₱4,360 in fuel — roughly ₱870 each for five people. Our Bill Split Calculator handles the math, and the road trip fuel-saving guide shows how to cut that by up to 30%.
Monthly commute cost: what you actually spend
Assume a 15 km one-way commute, 22 workdays a month (660 km/month):
| Vehicle | Per day | Per month | Per year |
|---|---|---|---|
| Motorcycle | ₱65 | ₱1,439 | ₱17,266 |
| Small car / hatchback | ₱174 | ₱3,837 | ₱46,042 |
| Sedan | ₱218 | ₱4,796 | ₱57,552 |
| Gas SUV / crossover | ₱262 | ₱5,755 | ₱69,062 |
| Diesel AUV / van | ₱319 | ₱7,018 | ₱84,216 |
| Diesel pickup / 7-seater SUV | ₱359 | ₱7,895 | ₱94,743 |
The gap between a motorcycle and a diesel pickup is about ₱77,000 a year on the same commute — before parking, tolls, and maintenance. If you’re weighing whether to drive at all, compare against ride-hailing in our Grab vs Angkas vs Taxi guide.
Is premium gas (RON 95/97) worth it?
This week, RON 95 costs ₱6.90 more per liter than RON 91. For a 12 km/L sedan that’s an extra ₱0.58 per km, or about ₱575 more per 1,000 km.
- Use RON 91 if your owner’s manual says 91 is fine — most Toyota, Mitsubishi, Honda, and Suzuki models sold in the Philippines run on it. Premium fuel won’t meaningfully improve mileage in an engine not designed for it.
- Use RON 95 or higher only if your manual requires it (many turbocharged and European cars do). Running lower octane in those engines can cause knocking and lost power.
How to lower your cost per km
- Keep tires at the correct pressure. Under-inflated tires can cost you a few percent in mileage. Check monthly at any gas station.
- Drive at a steady 80–90 km/h on expressways. Efficiency drops quickly above 100 km/h.
- Avoid peak-hour traffic when you can. Stop-and-go driving is where most fuel is wasted.
- Shop around stations. This week’s Metro Manila range for RON 91 was ₱76.70 to ₱94.50 per liter. On a 40-liter fill-up, the cheapest station can save you over ₱700 compared with the most expensive one.
- Use fuel loyalty cards and bank promos. Rebates of ₱1–3 per liter add up over a year.
- Remove extra weight. Unused roof racks and heavy cargo add drag and load.
- Consider an EV or hybrid for your next car. At typical Meralco rates, an EV runs on roughly ₱2 per km in electricity — see our EV Charging Cost Calculator and EV buyer’s guide.
Why fuel prices change every Tuesday
Philippine pump prices are deregulated. Oil companies adjust prices every Tuesday based on the previous week’s trading of refined fuels in Asia (Mean of Platts Singapore) and the peso–dollar exchange rate. The Department of Energy publishes weekly price monitoring for Metro Manila and the provinces.
2026 has been unusually volatile. Unleaded 95 bottomed around ₱54.50/L in February, peaked near ₱96.50/L in April during the Middle East supply crisis, and is at ₱94.10/L this week after three straight weekly hikes in September. That means the cost-per-km figures in this guide can change by ₱0.50 or more within a single month — always re-check with current prices before a long trip.
Frequently asked questions
How much is gas per km in the Philippines?
About ₱5.80 to ₱8.70 per km for most gasoline cars and SUVs, using RON 91 at ₱87.20/L (Metro Manila common price, September 29 – October 5, 2026). Motorcycles cost around ₱2.20 per km; diesel pickups around ₱12 per km.
How much gas do I need for 400 km?
Divide 400 by your car’s km/L. A 12 km/L sedan needs about 33 liters, which costs roughly ₱2,900 at ₱87.20/L. An SUV at 10 km/L needs 40 liters, about ₱3,500.
How do I compute fuel cost for a trip?
Fuel cost = (distance ÷ km per liter) × price per liter. For a 120 km round trip in a 12 km/L car at ₱87.20/L: 120 ÷ 12 = 10 liters, × ₱87.20 = ₱872.
How do I find my car’s actual km per liter?
Fill the tank completely and reset your trip meter. Drive normally until your next fill-up, fill to full again, then divide the kilometers driven by the liters you just added. Repeat over two or three tanks for a reliable average.
Is it cheaper to drive or take a Grab?
For a solo 15 km trip, a sedan uses about ₱109 in fuel, while a GrabCar ride typically costs several hundred pesos. But driving also carries parking, tolls, maintenance, and depreciation. For occasional trips, ride-hailing can win; for daily commuting, owning usually costs less per trip.
Bottom line
At October 2026 prices, budget ₱7–9 per km for a typical gas car or SUV, about ₱12 per km for a diesel pickup, and about ₱2 per km for a motorcycle. Prices move every Tuesday, so treat these as this week’s numbers and re-run your trip in the calculator before you leave.
