How Angkas pricing works
Angkas uses a transparent base + distance fare structure approved by the LTFRB Joint Administrative Order 2019-001 for motorcycle taxi pilot operations:
- Base fare: ₱60 covers the first 2 km
- Per km after: ₱10/km for each additional kilometer
- Booking fee: ₱20 fixed (covers app + insurance)
- Surge pricing: 1.2x to 2.5x during peak hours or bad weather
- Cancellation fee: ₱20 if you cancel after rider accepts
- Wait time: First 3 minutes free, then ₱2/minute
Rates are estimates — actual fare shown in the app may differ slightly based on traffic, route taken, and real-time surge level.
When is surge pricing highest?
Surge is dynamic — based on real-time demand vs available riders:
- Off-peak: 10 AM – 4 PM weekdays, late evenings — 1.0x base
- Light peak: 9-10 AM and 4-5 PM — 1.2x typical
- Peak hours: 7-9 AM and 5-8 PM weekdays — 1.5x average
- Heavy rain / typhoon: 1.8x to 2.5x common
- Holiday traffic (Christmas, Holy Week): up to 2.5x
- Friday night EDSA: consistently 1.5x to 2x
Pro tip: Book BEFORE you actually need to leave — if surge is high, you can wait 5-10 min and try again. Surge usually drops within minutes outside peak hours.
Angkas safety & rider requirements
Angkas riders go through:
- Training: Mandatory 4-hour safety + defensive driving course
- Background check: NBI clearance + drug test
- Vehicle inspection: Motorcycle must pass safety inspection
- Equipment: Each ride includes 2 DOT-certified helmets + reflective vest + hairnet for hygiene
- Insurance: Personal accident insurance up to ₱200,000 included per ride
If your rider doesn’t have proper safety gear or you feel unsafe — cancel and rebook. You won’t be charged for safety-related cancellations.
Payment options
Angkas accepts:
- Cash: Pay rider directly at drop-off (most common)
- Angkas Wallet: Top up via GCash, Maya, online banking
- GCash: Direct payment from app (no separate top-up)
- Maya: QR code payment supported
- Credit/Debit card: Visa, Mastercard via app
Cashless payments often get small promo discounts (₱5-10 off) for frequent riders. Check the Angkas app promo tab before booking.
Receipt: Sent automatically via email + saved in your Angkas app trip history. Useful for liquidation if work-related travel.
